Counseling Assistant- Per Diem

The Phoenix House Mid-Atlantic Counseling Center (PHCC) provides three phases of individualized treatment in an intensive group setting to clients with substance abuse and mental health concerns. Clients receive education about the disease of addiction and assistance in developing a stable recovery plan. Our programs offer relapse prevention techniques, life-skills education, individualized treatment planning, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and trauma-informed therapy.

The Counseling Assistant supports counseling center staff in performing appropriate clinical functions in order to facilitate a client's movement between counseling center programs, to include an adult Partial Hospitalization Program, adolescent and adult Intensive Outpatient and Outpatient services. The Clinical Assistant will present education lectures, conduct substance abuse testing and assist in documentation. On occasion the Counseling Assistant may also lead counseling groups under direct oversight of the clinical supervisor. We are seeking qualified individuals with availability Monday through Friday with particular



oBachelor's degree in human services field or equivalent years working in addiction treatment field preferred

oCommonwealth of Virginia Certified Substance Abuse Counselor or Substance Abuse Counselor - Assistant (CSAC/CSAC-A) required

oCertification in CPR and First Aid

oFamiliarity with 12-step recovery programs

oMust possess a valid driver's license and safe driving record


oMinimum of one year experience working in a human service/substance abuse treatment setting


oAbility to prepare and maintain required documentation

oAbility to comply with state and federal regulations regarding confidentiality

oKnowledge of recreation therapy, family therapy and behavior management techniques

oAbility to work and effectively communicate with others

oAbility to maintain appropriate boundaries with clients

oPossess a thorough knowledge of various treatment methods and experience working with diverse populations

oGeneral computer knowledge and skills, including, but not limited to use of email and basic timekeeping and electronic health records

oGood written and verbal skills
